Program Overview

Aboriginal Line Trades Pre-placement trainees attend the Aboriginal Learning Centre where they complete all of the academic requirements required for the Power Line Technician Training Program. Once the academics are complete, the trainees are exposed to a variety of line-related tasks. Some of these tasks may include:

  • building new power lines;
  • setting poles;
  • installing hardware on poles;
  • trimming trees and branch removal;
  • assisting in customer service interruption calls;
  • meter reading and customer service contact.

Work assignments are located throughout Manitoba and are rotated at two or three month intervals.

Successful candidates will maintain a head quarter zone that corresponds to their place of residence. While working a prescribed distance from their headquarter zone, all travel and single accommodation expenses will be covered. Any tools required for the position can be purchased through the payroll deduction plan.
