Power Electrician Training Program

Power Electricians construct, maintain and commission electrical apparatus used in electrical power generation, transmission, distribution and converter systems. In general you will install, maintain and repair:

  • Power generators;
  • Power converters;
  • Power transformers;
  • Circuit breakers;
  • Disconnects;
  • Distribution apparatus;
  • Metering and associated auxiliary equipment.

As a Power Electrician Trainee, you will take part in the Manitoba Power Electrician four-year apprenticeship program. The program includes competency-based trade schools, formal classes at Red River College, and on-the-job-training.

Educational Qualifications:

A graduate of a two-year Diploma from a recognized College in one of the following:

  • Electrical Engineering Technology
  • Electronic Engineering Technology
  • Instrumentation Engineering Technology

OR

Be a High School graduate with the following subjects:

  • Mathematics 40S (Applied or Pre-Calculus) or Math 300
  • Physics 40S or Physics 300
  • English 40 or English 300/301

Aboriginal candidates who do not meet these qualifications may be interested in the following ten month programs:

Selected candidates will be provided educational assistance to upgrade to the minimum academic requirements and on-the-job training to compete for a position in the Power Electrician Training Program.
