2010
- Ranked highest in customer satisfaction among large utilities in a new national survey conducted by J.D. Power and Associates.
- Named ENERGY STAR Participant of the Year by Natural Resources Canada at the 2010 ENERGY STAR Market Transformation Awards. The annual awards recognize companies and organizations for their efforts to encourage Canadian consumers to purchase the most energy efficient product, technology, or service available in the market. Our Power Smart* Program was recognized as a national leader for transforming the market through its ongoing commitment to promote energy efficient products and practices.
- Received a 2009 Award of Excellence in Environmental Education from the Canadian Network for Environmental Education and Communication (EECOM). The award recognizes the corporation's history of involvement, investment, and support for community programs and research related to environmental education, including sustainable development initiatives. Manitoba Hydro is a long-time member of EECOM and was the first utility to join the network. Read more about the Award of Excellence in Environmental Education.
- Manitoba Hydro Place won the ArchDaily Building of the Year 2009 award in the Offices category. ArchDaily is a popular architecture website and the award was given by its readers to the best buildings featured on the website during the last year. 2009
- Manitoba Hydro Place, our new corporate headquarters, was recognized by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat as the number one office tower in North America with regard to design, quality of space, urbanism, sustainability and energy efficiency. Our building was one of four buildings in four geographic regions selected in the Best Tall Building awards for 2009, sharing recognition with outstanding tall buildings in Beijing, London and Doha (Qatar).

- Recognized at the Utilities Telecom Council (UTC) annual Apex Awards. The awards honour utilities that have provided outstanding service to the communities they serve. Won through our involvement with Broadband Communities North (BCN), a non-profit organization that provides high speed internet service to Aboriginal communities in northern Manitoba.
- Named one of Canada's best 50 corporate citizens of 2009 by the Corporate Knights. Manitoba Hydro ranked 38th overall, and was the only Manitoba company to make the list. The annual ranking of Canada's largest and most influential companies considers environmental, social, and governance indicators found in the public domain. This year, companies' Aboriginal relations were weighed as a key performance indicator for the extractive sectors (including utilities). View the full report.
- Won nine awards at the 2009 Utility Communicators International's Better Communications Competition. The awards were given for several Power Smart advertising campaigns, an Earth Power (geothermal) video, and our annual report.
2008
- Awarded the 2008 Technology Transfer Award by the Electric Power and Research Institute for the ZED-Meter Development project. The ZED-meter is a unique device developed for the measurement of transmission tower footing impedance—a key property in safety, reliability, and lightning protection.
- Named one of Canada's best 50 corporate citizens of 2008 by the Corporate Knights. Manitoba Hydro ranked 44th overall. The annual ranking of Canada's largest and most influential companies considers environmental, social, and governance indicators found in the public domain. View the full report.
- The Canadian Energy Efficiency Alliance awarded Manitoba Hydro and the Province of Manitoba an A+ in its 7th National Report Card on Energy Efficiency (for the year 2006). The A+ ranking is the highest in the country and the
CEEA noted that the province continues to set an example. Our Power Smart programs helped the province achieve this high ranking, which is an improvement over the impressive A rankings we've held for the past 2 years. See the media release.
- We won 13 awards in 8 advertising and communications categories at the annual Utility Communicators International's Better Communications Competition. The corporation was ranked at the top of its category of utilities and placed second overall on a list of Top 10 Communicators, which includes some of the largest utilities in the U.S.
- Canadian Gas Association Best Overall Safety Performance in Canada awarded to Manitoba Hydro (to be presented on April 8 at the national conference in Regina, Saskatchewan.)
- 5 National Television Bureau Awards for SMART* ideas, a series highlighting energy efficiency and public safety information.
- Wuskwatim Project Wins CEA Environmental Stewardship Award.
2007
- The Commercial Refrigeration Program received the second place award in Chartwell's Best Practices Award Competition in the category of Fostering Relationships with Mid-size Businesses in April 2007. The program was singled-out for improving the energy efficiency of refrigeration technologies, which can often be 40 to 60 per cent of food retail and restaurant energy bills.
- With the assistance of our Power Smart programs, MJ Roofing of Winnipeg won Natural Resources Canada's Award for Corporate Stewardship in 2007. MJ Roofing won the Canadian Industry Program for Energy Conservation Award by installing energy-efficient T5 fluorescent fixtures, new high performance windows, and insulation upgrades.
- Manitoba Customer Contact Association's Excellence in Customer Contact Achievement ceremony Outstanding Representative Award to two staff members at the Manitoba Hydro Customer Contact Centre.
- Dr. Alan Beaven CARE Award from the Manitoba Forestry Association to Manitoba Hydro's Forest Enhancement Program.
- First, second and third place standings at the 2007 Utility Communicators International Better Communications Competition for customer print and video materials.
- North American Electric Reliability Corporation public recognition of Manitoba Hydro's System Operator training program as an Example of Excellence. System Operators monitor generating, transmission and sub-transmission facilities determining courses of action when problems occur.
- Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Chapter Corporate Award to Manitoba Hydro for encouraging employee volunteerism and innovation in its use of resources in support of the society's programs and activities.
