Concept, Development, and Construction

In 2002, as part of the negotiated purchase of Winnipeg Hydro, Manitoba Hydro committed to construct an office building in downtown Winnipeg. In 2009, that commitment was fulfilled.

The tower is stunning, both architecturally and in its minimal use of energy; it uses 65 per cent less energy than a comparable office building of conventional design.

The project was large, unique, and demanding, but everyone from our integrated design team to the construction workers on-site rose to the challenge to create a cutting edge, world-class office tower. And it all began with a vision:

"Manitoba Hydro's new head office building in downtown Winnipeg will be a state-of-the art energy efficient, cost-effective structure that embodies and demonstrates Manitoba Hydro's commitment to sustainable development. While meeting the business needs of Manitoba Hydro, the office building will have a positive impact on the sustainable future of Winnipeg's downtown and be a source of pride for Manitobans."
