Utility recognized for its Power Smart efforts with ENERGY STAR® award

At a ceremony held at its head office on Tuesday afternoon, Manitoba Hydro was presented with the prestigious ENERGY STAR® Utility of the Year award by Natural Resources Canada. The Honourable Jim Carr, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, presented the award to Manitoba Hydro’s President and CEO Kelvin Shepherd.

The award recognizes excellence in the promotion of energy efficiency by a utility to its customers.

“I’d like to thank our employees who develop and promote our various Power Smart programs and our customers who have enthusiastically adopted them,” said Shepherd. “They are the reason we are being awarded for our efforts today.”

“I’d also like to acknowledge the efforts of our federal partners in promoting the ENERGY STAR program in Canada. Having a program like this provides a clear signal to consumers regarding energy efficiency and performance. When we save energy we save the environment and money. There is simply no downside to improved efficiency.”

Manitoba Hydro offers a wide range of Power Smart programs to both its electricity and natural gas customers designed to help them use energy wisely and reduce energy bills. For a complete list of programs, please visit hydro.mb.ca.
