Maintaining and enhancing lake sturgeon populations
We have initiated the Lake Sturgeon Stewardship & Enhancement Program, as a commitment to maintain and enhance lake sturgeon populations in areas affected by our operations, now and in the future.

Program activities include:
- Determining the status of lake sturgeon populations throughout areas affected by our operations, and identifying factors that may be limiting the populations.
- Complete inventories of lake sturgeon populations.
- Assess the habitat available in the Winnipeg and Nelson rivers.
- Funding and conducting research relating to sturgeon in Manitoba and hydroelectric facilities.
- Pointe du Bois Sturgeon Spawning Habitat Enhancement Trial.
- Academic research on sturgeon ecology on the Winnipeg River.
- Minimizing the effects of new and existing facilities on lake sturgeon populations.
- Investigate opportunities to minimize the effects of new facilities on lake sturgeon.
- Review existing facilities and investigate opportunities to reduce effects of existing facilities on lake sturgeon.
- Participating in the management and recovery of existing stocks by promoting education and community participation through sturgeon management boards including:
- Educating the public and raising awareness.
- Maintain sturgeon aquarium at 820 Taylor office.
- Work with government, First Nations, and other stakeholders to increase awareness regarding the sensitivity and importance of lake sturgeon.
