Preliminary Preferred Route Selection

The preliminary preferred route was selected within the western study area based on alternative routes presented during Round 3 consultation.

Round 3 of the Bipole III Environmental Assessment consultation process provided an opportunity for review and comment on the alternative transmission line routes that were developed for Bipole III.

Many comments and suggestions were received and this feedback was incorporated into the technical evaluations of the alternative routes to arrive at a preliminary preferred route. What We Heard in Round 3.

A total of 83 alternative route segments were evaluated, rated and compared. 28 different criteria were used to determine the preliminary preferred route, some of which are:

  • Socio-economic concerns;
  • Agriculture;
  • Wildlife;
  • Habitat and fragmentation;
  • Vegetation
  • Caribou;
  • Technical feasibility;
  • Aboriginal Traditional Knowledge;
  • Stakeholder group considerations;
  • Public input;
  • Land use patterns and recreation.

The identification of the preliminary preferred route for Bipole III was based on a Site Selection and Environmental Assessment (SSEA) process.
