The Pointe du Bois Generating Station first produced power from 3 generating units in 1911. Thirteen more generating units were added between 1914 and 1926.
Manitoba Hydro acquired the 78 MW generating station in 2002 when Winnipeg Hydro was purchased. The facilities, located on the Winnipeg River in the Whiteshell Provincial Park, are approximately 150 km northeast of Winnipeg.
Despite extensive repairs and upgrades that have been conducted over the years, the spillway facilities at Pointe du Bois require replacement in order to maintain public and dam safety and to provide a modern and safer working environment for staff.
