Utility Rate Comparisons

Survey of Canadian Electricity Bills — Effective May 1, 2010

Notes

  1. Each participating utility calculates bills based on its rates as of 2010 05 01.
  2. All bills are net of discounts and income tax rebates. GST, provincial and/or municipal taxes are not included. Newfoundland Power does however include a Municipal Tax which is built into their rates.
  3. ENMAX Residential and Small Commercial (≤ 5000 kWh) bill calculations are based on the May 2010 Regulated Rate Option (RRO) energy charge of 6.626 ¢/kWh. ENMAX Medium and Large Commerical bill calculations are based on the annual average Alberta electricity spot market pool price.
  4. EPCOR bill calculations are based on the May 2010 Regulated Rate Option (RRO) energy charge of 6.338 ¢/kWh.
  5. Ontario – Bill calculations for Residential are based on an average seasonal commodity price of 6.50 ¢/kWh for the first 600 kWh (summer) and 1,000 kWh (winter) with the balance of kWh at 7.50 ¢/kWh. Calculations for General Service Small commodity price are based on the first 750 kWh at 6.50 ¢/kWh and balance of kWh at 7.50 ¢/kWh. Calculations for General Service Medium and Large are based on an average estimated price for energy which varies among utilities surveyed. All bill calculations include a debt retirement charge and a Special Purpose Charge introduced by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure.
