Current Natural Gas Rates

Since natural gas is a commodity that is traded on the open market, the price rises and falls in accordance with supply and demand. To maximize customer choice and value, we offer variable quarterly and fixed rate options to help you find a service that best suits your needs. In addition, our rates are reviewed by the Public Utilities Board.

The August 1, 2010 change to Primary Gas rate represents a decrease of approximately 0.8% or $8 on the annual bill of a typical residential customer who buys their Primary Gas from Centra Gas. The rate decrease is primarily the result of changes to the price that Centra pays for natural gas.

Small General Service Commercial

This service is available to customers who use less than 680,000 cubic metres of natural gas annually. While customers who use less than 680,000 cubic metres of natural gas annually have the option of switching between this class and the Large General Service (LGS) class, given Centra's existing rates those customers who use less than approximately 14,625 cubic metres of natural gas a year will pay less in the SGS class.

The August 1, 2010 change to Primary Gas rate represents a decrease in the range of 0.7% to 1.0% on the annual bill, depending on the consumption of an SGS Commercial customer who buys their Primary Gas from Centra Gas. The rate decrease is primarily the result of changes to the price that Centra pays for natural gas.

Large General Service (LGS)

This service is available to customers who use less than 680,000 cubic metres of natural gas annually. While customers who use less than 680,000 cubic metres of natural gas annually have the option of switching between this class and the Small General Service (SGS) class, given Centra's existing rates those customers who use more than approximately 16,500 cubic metres of natural gas a year will pay less in the Large General Service class.

Transportation Service (T-Service) customers pay a separate Distribution to Customer rate from regular Sales Service customers. Transportation Service involves the transmission and/or distribution of Customer-owned gas on Centra Gas' system as defined in a Contract between the Customer and Centra Gas.

High Volume Firm Service (HVF)

This service is available to customers who use 680,000 cubic metres or more of natural gas annually, through one meter, and require service that is available every day of the year.

Mainline Firm Service (MLF)

This service is available to customers who receive natural gas through one meter, are served from Centra's Transmission system or through dedicated distribution facilities at pressures in excess of medium pressure and require service that is available every day of the year. Mainline customers' annual natural gas requirements must equal or exceed 680,000 cubic metres, and they must contract for such service for a minimum of one year.

Transportation Service involves the transmission and/or distribution of Customer-owned gas on the Centra Gas system as defined in a Contract between the Customer and Centra Gas.

Interruptible Service

Interruptible customers receive natural gas through one meter where the service may be interrupted by Centra from time to time upon notice to the customer. Interruptible Service is only available in situations where, in the sole opinion of Centra, a benefit exists for Centra or other customers. This service is available to customers whose annual natural gas requirements equal or exceed 680,000 cubic metres and also contract for such service for a minimum of one year, or to customers that have received Interruptible Service continuously since December 31, 1996.

What is Alternate Supply Service?

Alternate Supply Service is any supply or source of natural gas that Centra may offer from time to time, in lieu of curtailment, to Interruptible Service Customers.

What is Penalty Gas?

This is natural gas consumed by Interruptible Service customers in contravention to Centra's request for curtailment. Natural gas used in this situation is assessed a penalty charge.
