Storms can happen quickly, disrupting electrical service without warning. If your power goes out, there may be no way to know if it will be off for a few hours or, in extreme cases, a few days.
If your power goes out:
If you notice that your neighbourhood is affected, turn off all appliances and lights. Leave one light on so you can tell when power has been restored. Be prepared.
If your house or farm is the only one affected, the problem could be that a fuse has blown or a circuit has tripped.
If your house has a fuse box, keep extra fuses available (make sure they are the right size). Keep a flashlight nearby; never change a fuse or reset a circuit breaker in the dark.
If your power is still off after you've checked these things, report the power outage by calling 480-5900 (toll free 1-888-624-9376). To identify your service location, you will be asked for your phone number OR your account number (on your bill) OR your meter number (on your meter). We may already be aware of the outage, but your call will help us determine its extent.
