  2. Arrange a concept analysis meeting.

    Discuss your project concept with us before preparing your custom measures proposal. Our technical staff can provide guidance about the eligibility of your concept to ensure it does not contain ineligible measures.

    For each custom measure, discuss:

    • how the proposed concept will save electricity and/or natural gas;
    • any interactive effects between measures and energy sources;
    • the capital cost, estimated savings, and payback;
    • the options – a base case (lower capital cost, less efficient option) and a proposed energy efficient case.

    Contact us to arrange a concept analysis meeting.

  3. Apply for feasibility study assistance.

    Read about feasibility studies and complete the Feasibility Study Application.

    We will:

    • review your application to ensure the project meets program objectives;
    • determine if your project is eligible for a system installation incentive.

    If the feasibility study is approved for financial assistance, we will contact you and/or your engineer/architect to authorize and advise you of the approved amount.

    If the feasibility study is not approved, discuss the project with one of our engineers. Other energy efficient upgrades may be available for your commercial building.

  4. Conduct feasibility study

    Once we have approved your feasibility study application, your engineer/architect can prepare a feasibility study report.

    The engineer/architect must:

    • follow the outline in the feasibility study application;
    • affix his/her professional seal or certificate of authorization;
    • forward one copy of the report to us at:
      Manitoba Hydro
      Commercial Custom Measures Program
      PO Box 815 STN Main
      Winnipeg, MB R3C 2P4

    Once the engineer/architect has completed the requirements for a feasibility study, we will provide written notification to you, along with information on payment of study assistance.

    At this point, you will pay the engineer's/architect's fee and submit proof of full payment to us. Upon receipt of proof, we will send your feasibility study assistance cheque.

    We will evaluate the feasibility study to determine if the project is eligible for a system installation incentive. Projects that reduce electrical energy and/or natural gas consumption are eligible for financial incentives.

  5. Apply for system installation incentive.

    You must complete these steps prior to system installation.

    1. Complete the Commercial Custom Measures Program application and agreement.
    2. Determine the incentive amounts on the calculation sheets provided in the application for each of the custom measures you are applying for.
    3. Attach supporting calculations and cost estimates sealed by your registered engineer/architect.
    4. Sign the customer acknowledgment section.
    5. Forward custom measure description and custom incentive calculation sheet, along with applicable preliminary design drawings. Keep a copy of these completed forms for your records.
    6. We will review the application and, if in agreement, conditionally approve the incentive. We will let you know the project incentive approval and give you written permission to begin installing the custom measure.

  6. Project completion and documentation.

    After you receive written approval for your system installation incentive, you may start your system installation.

    Once installation is complete, you and/or your installer/engineer must perform an inspection and complete the completion declaration. The completion declaration certifies that all the equipment for which a system installation incentive has been applied has been installed and is fully operational.

    You must complete the following documents in full and mail them to us prior to final approval:

    • completion declaration;
    • completion questionnaire;
    • copies of the paid project invoices;
    • copy of certificate of approval (electrical inspection);
    • copy of the natural gas installation permit;
    • copy of occupancy certificate (not required for existing retrofits where one is not issued).

  7. Post-installation site visit and final incentive approval.

    After we have received the required documentation, one of our representatives may conduct a final walk-through to confirm satisfactory installation of the energy efficient products and systems.

    Your incentive cheque will then be processed and mailed.
