Unit Heater Installation

All natural gas equipment that is installed in Manitoba must be:

• approved by one of the following:
  • Canadian Gas Association (CGA);
  • Canadian Standards Association (CSA);
  • Underwriters Laboratories Canada (ULC);
  • ETL Semko (cETL);
  • Warnock Hersey Certification (WHC).
• installed by a licensed gas fitter, who first obtains a permit from the Manitoba Department of Labour. We will then conduct a gas inspection to ensure the installation meets current provincial gas codes.

Sizing

A heating contractor or engineer should perform a heat loss calculation to find out how many and which size of unit heaters a building requires. This calculation is normally based on the building's construction and ensures that the heating system is large enough to maintain a temperature of 22 C (72 F) on the coldest winter design day.
