Natural Gas Rates Decreased on May 1, 2012

For larger volume customers, Manitoba Hydro’s natural gas rates decreased in the range of 2.1 per cent to 14.4 per cent depending on the rate class and level of consumption. The rate decrease was primarily the result of changes to the price that Manitoba Hydro pays for gas from Alberta, and also reflects the expiry of rate adjustments associated with prior gas costs.

The rates effective May 1, 2012 reflect a decrease in the cost of Primary Gas from 11.05¢ per cubic metre to 8.80¢ per cubic metre. The price that Manitoba Hydro pays for natural gas is passed directly on to customers without any markup. As a result, the utility does not make any profit on the sale of Primary Gas.
