Reconditioning – The Green Choice

OILPROS™ is an oil reconditioning service offered by Manitoba Hydro. When your oil deteriorates, you have two options: replace it with new oil, or recondition it to use it again. Manitoba Hydro has the ability to recondition Transformer Oils and Hydraulic Oils through processes which restore your oil to like-new condition. Reconditioning is like recycling, allowing you to re-use your oil and avoid waste management issues. If done is a timely manner, these oils can be reconditioned indefinitely.

Transformer Oils

Today, stricter federal regulations on PCB levels mean it is more important than ever to have your oil tested. Not only do our instruments detect PCBs to a level lower than the regulated limits, we also remove the PCBs and recondition the oil to like-new condition.

For wet oil, our on-road service will dry-out your transformer and oil at your facility. We recondition to a dielectric strength of better than 57 kV and less than 4 ppm of water, and once complete a full report on the state of your oil's typical properties is provided.

Hydraulic Oils

Particle and water decontamination is performed on hydraulic oils at our facilities. In particle decontamination, oil is run through filter beds to remove particles and reduce the particle size to less than half a micron or smaller.

Water decontamination again runs your oil through filter beds, and its dielectric strength is tested using the ASTM D 1816 test. For electrical use, oil is reconditioned to a water content of less than 20 ppm, and a dielectric strength of 50 kV or better. If your oil is for non-electrical use, it will be reconditioned to less than 50 ppm and 25 kV or better.

Dollars and Sense

Replacing your oil can be a costly expense, making our cost-conscious reconditioning services an attractive alternative. By reconditioning one gallon of transformer oil you save up to 80% of the cost of a new gallon, while for hydraulic oil you save up to 65% of the cost of a new gallon. The final price depends on the location, quantity, and existing quality of your oil.

Quality Assurance

All processes are completed by Manitoba Hydro's qualified mechanical technicians, whose experience and access to state-of-the-art technology produces quality results. To complement our services we will provide you with a full report on the state of the typical properties of your oil when the reconditioning services are complete.
