How to Take Part

When you participate in the New Buildings Program, our Power Smart team will offer guidance throughout the design, construction, and early operation of your new energy efficient building.

Choose one of two design options for your new building:

• Prescriptive building path
  Design and build your new building according to a prescribed measure set outlined in the Power Smart Design Standards (Version 4). This path is most suitable for smaller buildings, such as retail shops, restaurants and small offices. Read the New Buildings Program Prescriptive Path Program Guide for more detailed information.
• Custom building design path
  Design and build your new building to perform at an energy efficiency level that is at least 33 per cent greater than the Model National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings 1997 (MNECB), as tested through building energy simulation. This path is suitable for larger, more complex facilities. Read the New Buildings Program Custom Design Path Program Guide for more detailed information.

All new building projects must be pre-approved before any design work begins. Before you develop schematic drawings and/or apply for any construction/foundation permits, contact us.

Additional eligibility criteria applies for all Government of Manitoba owned and funded projects and all projects incorporating geothermal heating and cooling technologies. For specific details regarding your building's eligibility, contact us.
