Refrigeration Measures, Paybacks, and Annual Savings

Our Power Smart for Business programs help customers become more energy efficient. Rebates reduce the initial cost of adding or upgrading to more energy efficient refrigeration equipment. This leads to reduced energy bills and more environmentally-friendly consumption habits.

Display case

• New vertical cases with doors save energy by reducing the loss of cold air from cases. Incentives of $100 per linear foot of door are available. Payback may be within two to three and a half years.*
• New vertical cases with heat free doors save energy by eliminating heat to the glass portion of the door. Depending on previous equipment, incentives of $50 to $150 per linear foot of door are available. Payback may be within two to three and a half years, depending on previous equipment.
• Anti-sweat heater (ASH) controls save energy by reducing or turning off heaters found in case doors. Incentives of $100 per door are available. Paybacks may be within five and a half years.
• Night covers for display cases save energy by reducing the loss of cold air from cases. Incentives of $9 per linear foot are available. Paybacks may be as soon as one or two years for vertical cases and up to nine years for a low temperature horizontal case.
• LED lighting is one of the most energy efficient forms of illuminating a display case. A custom incentive of $1 per watt saved is available.

Walk-in box

• Strip curtains save energy by reducing the loss of cold air from walk-in entrances. Incentives are available for $3 per square foot. Paybacks may be as soon as one month.
• Automatic door closers save energy by keeping doors closed and preventing the loss of cold air from walk-in coolers/freezers. Incentives of $50 per closer are available. Paybacks may be within five months.
• T8 lighting is more energy efficient than incandescent lighting and emits less heat in walk-ins. Incentives of $12 per fixture are available. Paybacks may be as soon as one month.

Mechanical room

• High efficiency compressors are more energy efficient to operate than standard compressors. Incentives of $100 per ton are available. Paybacks may be within a year and a half.
• Electronically Commutated Motors (ECM) for evaporator fans save energy as they are more efficient to operate than standard motors and they emit less heat inside cases. Incentives of $100 per motor are available. Paybacks within three years.
• Compressor suction line insulation saves energy by protecting refrigerant temperature from surrounding area temperature. The added insulation will help decrease heat load to the compressor resulting in decreased compressor operating hours. An incentive of $1 per linear foot is available. Paybacks are within one year.

Other

• Door gaskets save energy by helping reduce loss of cold air from display case or walk-in doors. Incentives of $5 per linear foot are available. Paybacks can be within the month.
