Important Changes

Deadline extensions now available.

  • Homeowners who may not be able to meet the 18 month post-retrofit evaluation deadline can now register for an extension to their deadline.
  • Homeowners must register with Natural Resources Canada, to express an interest for an extension to their deadline. Only those whose 18 months have not been exceeded may register. Once registered, complete your retrofits and receive a post-retrofit evaluation before March 31, 2011 (end of program date).
  • Register with Natural Resources Canada or call 1-877-953-5454 before December 30, 2010 (registration is available after October 14, 2009).
  • Call us when you are ready for the post-retrofit evaluation. Please call at least 12 weeks before March 31, 2011 to schedule the post-retrofit evaluation appointment, as we anticipate a large number of customers wanting to participate by the end of the program. We do not guarantee an appointment slot will be available to you if you call at a later date, and we anticipate the March appointment slots to fill quickly.

Participate a second time.

  • Homeowners who have completed both their pre-retrofit and post-retrofit ecoENERGY evaluations can now apply for a second post-retrofit evaluation on qualifying energy improvements not previously completed.
  • Homeowners must register with Natural Resources Canada to express an interest to re-enter the program. Once registered, complete your retrofits and receive a post-retrofit evaluation by March 31, 2011.
  • Register with Natural Resources Canada or call 1-877-953-5454 before December 30, 2010 (registration is available after October 14, 2009)
  • Cost of the second post-retrofit evaluation is $300 + GST.
  • Call us when you are ready for the second post-retrofit evaluation. Please call at least 12 weeks before March 31, 2011 to schedule the post-retrofit evaluation appointment, as we anticipate a large number of customers wanting to participate by the end of the program. We do not guarantee an appointment slot will be available to you if you call at a later date, and we anticipate the March appointment slots to fill quickly.

Mixed-use buildings and multi-residential buildings are now eligible to participate.

  • Mixed use building is defined as a building that is used for residential and non-residential purposes. The building must be at least 50 per cent residential to qualify.
    • Examples of qualifying mixed-use buildings: buildings that contain non-residential spaces without commercial or industrial equipment, such as a clinic, a travel agency, a sewing shop, a bed and breakfast, a second hand shop, a bookstore, or an office.
    • Examples of non-qualifying mixed-use buildings: buildings that contain non-residential spaces with commercial or industrial equipment, such as a restaurant with commercial stoves, refrigerators and freezers; a health food store or corner grocery with commercial freezers/coolers; or a Laundromat with commercial washers and dryers.
  • Multi-residential buildings (MURBs) are residential duplexes, triplexes, etc., with all exterior access, and apartment buildings that meet part 9 of the building code. Evaluation services for these types of buildings will be available in the near future.

* Current Single Family Residence fees are: $180 for a pre-retrofit, and in the majority of cases (when the estimated ecoENERGY Grant amount is $400 or more), $25 for a post-retrofit (reduced from $125 to $25).
