Power Smart Insulation Requirements
To qualify for a Home Insulation Program rebate, insulation must meet the following Power Smart levels.
Note: Material must have a verifiable R value as determined by the Canadian Construction Materials Centre (CCMC)
Attics
Existing insulation must RSI 5.3 (R-30) or less.
- Insulate to RSI 8.8 (R-50)
- Flat and cathedral ceilings to be insulated to RSI 5.0 (R-28)
- A minimum of 100 sq. ft. must be insulated
Basement walls
Only un-insulated walls are eligible.
- Insulate to RSI 4.2 (R-24)
- If you are using a combination of interior/exterior insulation a horizontal perimeter skirt to RSI 2.1 (R-12.5) is required
- A minimum of 100 sq. ft. must be insulated
Crawlspaces
Only un-insulated crawlspaces are eligible.
- Insulate vertical walls to RSI 4.2 (R-24) total, with a minimum of RSI 2.1 (R-12.5) installed on the exterior of the wall, plus a horizontal exterior skirt of RSI 2.1 (R-12.5) is required.
- A minimum of 50 sq. ft. must be insulated
Wall cavities
- Insulate to a minimum of RSI 1.8 (R-10)
- A minimum of 100 sq. ft. must be insulated
Exterior walls (when re-siding)
- Insulate un-insulated wall cavities to a minimum of RSI 1.8 (R-10)
- Exterior wall insulation of a minimum of RSI 0.7 (R-3.75) to a maximum of RSI 1.8 (R-10)
- A minimum of 100 sq. ft. must be insulated
