EnerGuide for New Houses Rating

Every new home will receive an EnerGuide for New Houses rating at the completion of construction. The rating is based on a thorough energy analysis of the new home. The house will also receive an EnerGuide for Houses label and report that gives the homeowner an estimate of how much energy they can expect to use each year.

The EnerGuide for New Houses rating provides information that is needed to understand the energy efficiency of the new home. Power Smart new homes are designed to ensure that the homes will reach approximately 79 out of 100 on the EnerGuide scale. The rating is based on standard operating and weather conditions similar to the EnerGuide labels now seen on appliances. The EnerGuide for New Houses program was developed by Natural Resources Canada, Office of Energy Efficiency.

The builder will work with a Manitoba Hydro Energy Advisor to ensure that your new home is certified as Power Smart. The Energy Advisor collects data from the home plans and conducts an on-site evaluation, including a blower door test. This blower door test temporarily changes the air pressure in the house to confirm that the house had been properly draft-proofed.

The Energy Advisor uses software provided by Natural Resources Canada to model the home's estimated energy use based on the results from the blower door test and the on-site evaluation. They will also provide the homeowner with an EnerGuide for New Houses report and a Power Smart certification.
