Funding guidelines

Donations and sponsorships may be provided to community organizations that support the following Manitoba Hydro business and operational objectives:

  • endeavours that benefit the community and our customers, employees, and stakeholders by improving the quality of life;
  • encourage and support the community-minded efforts and involvement of our employees;
  • provide a strategic opportunity to support key business objectives or deliver a corporate message to key audiences.

Preference will be given to initiatives* that are provincial or regional in scope. Effective March 15, 2016, submissions for donation and sponsorship support must be received a minimum of 75 days prior to the event. Review times vary depending on the size, scope, and nature of the request. You can assist with minimizing the review timeline by providing complete and accurate documentation in a timely manner. Due to current financial restraints, we are restricting our funding for donations and sponsorships.

Funding is not available to:

  • individuals, or organizations supporting an individual;
  • private schools;
  • animal rights organizations;
  • requests from religious organizations for sectarian purposes (a community program sponsored by a religious organization may be considered);
  • fraternal organizations;
  • non-Canadian based charities;
  • profit-making enterprises;
  • labour groups;
  • governments and government funded agencies or institutions at all levels;
  • political parties;
  • private for-profit companies or businesses.

Funding is not available to cover:

  • debt reduction;
  • political contributions;
  • day-to-day business operations;
  • financial requests for capital campaigns for infrastructure projects;
  • film, video, television, and book productions;
  • golf tournaments;
  • loans for small business;
  • requests from school or community club-based sports teams;
  • beauty or talent contests;
  • fundraising activities related to individual sponsorship (i.e., walk-a-thons, wedding socials);
  • travel or human resource expenses;
  • rodeos.
