Snowmobile safety

With more snow on the ground, here are some tips to stay safe if you’re snowmobiling.

  • Don’t travel near substations and power lines and don’t go off the trail. Darkness, fog, and blowing snow can make hazards difficult to spot.
  • Keep a close watch for guy wires near wood poles. Guy wires are marked with yellow covers.
  • Stay away from waterways. The ice formed poorly earlier this winter, and despite the recent cold, river and lake ice cover is weak in many spots. Changing water levels has also weakened ice cover.
