Soup for the soul and a chance to win part of the pot

The Stone Soup event held annually at Manitoba Hydro Place as the main fundraiser for the Child Nutrition Council of Manitoba (CNCM), will be virtual again this year due to the pandemic… but the hunger they are hoping to ease is anything but virtual.

Why they do what they do

Proper nutrition is the basic requirement which allows students to thrive at school. For over two decades, the CNCM has been dedicated to helping school children learn, grow, and succeed by supporting school meal and snack programs across the province through grants and nutrition education.

“The Child Nutrition Council is based in Manitoba, so all of the funds they raise stay here, reaching children in all regions of our province,” said Dan Prowse, one of the Manitoba Hydro employees who has volunteered to help promote the event within Manitoba Hydro. “Unfortunately, the pandemic is preventing us from gathering in the gallery to enjoy a bowl of soup, but despite that, hopefully hungry kids can count on the generosity of Hydro employees and others again this year.”

Win 40 per cent of the pot

In lieu of the Stone Soup event, CNCM will is hosting a 60/40 online raffle with 60 percent going to the cause and 40 percent to the winner. All proceeds from raffle and donations will go directly to help fund meal and snack programs in Manitoba schools.

Tickets are available for purchase on the Child Nutrition Council of MB raffle website. Ticket prices are 1 for $5, 3 for $10, 10 for $20, and 50 for $50. They are available until 11 a.m. on March 18 with the draw happening at 11:30 a.m.

Stone Soup Week

There will also be a Stone Soup week (March 14–20) during which you can dine in or take out signature soups prepared by chefs at participating restaurants across the province. You will have the opportunity to vote for your favourite soup on the CNCM website. For each bowl of soup sold that week, $1 will go towards Manitoba school meal and snack programs helping contribute to the goal of every child… every day… well nourished.

Visit the CNCM website for more information or to donate to support healthy foods in schools.
