Our work means reliable service for you

Our electrical grid is spread all over the province, with thousands of kilometers of overhead and underground transmission and distribution lines. This infrastructure experiences regular wear so we always need to stay on top of maintenance and replacement efforts, to ensure you have reliable electricity.
To safely do this work for you, we sometimes need to have outages to people’s service. If you are out driving, when the work is near or next to roadways, you might also see temporary lane closures.
While these brief inconveniences can be frustrating, a short, managed outage such as this helps prevent unpredictable or even severe outages in the future.
Last fall, we needed to access underground cables in the West Broadway area of Winnipeg for maintenance. While only a small area of the street was blocked off above ground, the underground cables in question supply electricity for a large part of Winnipeg’s core — powering residential areas, commercial establishments and services you rely on every day.
So when you see us working on our equipment or power lines in your area, remember that work not only maintains reliable electricity to the places you can immediately see, but also many, many others down the line. Similarly, if you experience an outage, it may be from part of our infrastructure far away from where you live or work.
Maintenance and repairs to our network are happening year-round, throughout the whole province. Our team members at all levels work tirelessly to complete this work so you can continue enjoying safe and reliable energy every day of your life.
