Manitoba Hydro safely restored power Monday to several thousand customers who experienced outages due to severe weather in northern, eastern and western Manitoba. But some remain without power Monday night.
High winds, rain and heavy wet snow caused damage and brought trees down on overhead power lines in many areas, leading to widespread power outages. More than 12,000 customers were affected.
Manitoba Hydro assigned additional crews to respond, but with hundreds of outages over wide areas of the province and some weather-related road closures, the utility was unable to reach and repair all damage Monday.
About 4,500 customers remain without power Monday night mostly in northern Manitoba but also in eastern and western areas of the province. Manitoba Hydro will update restoration times as crews are able to assess damage and begin repairs Tuesday.
“Extended power outages like these are difficult, and we thank customers for their patience and support,” said Manitoba Hydro Media Relations Officer Peter Chura. “We are making every effort to restore power as soon as possible, without compromising safety.”
Updated information on restoration times will be posted on Manitoba Hydro’s social media channels.
