Manitoba Hydro making significant progress restoring service to Cross Lake/Pimicikamak

Winnipeg – Manitoba Hydro crews are continuing to make good progress on repairs to the transmission line feeding Cross Lake/Pimicikamak. The community has been without power since late Sunday, when a line crossing the Nelson River snapped, causing the outage.

No further complications to the repair work have been encountered, and good weather is allowing the continued use of helicopters to ferry crews and materials to the location of the line break and make the repairs.

The utility confirmed it is expecting full restoration to be complete by 6 p.m. tomorrow.

“We know how difficult this situation has been for the community and its members,” said Hal Turner, Manitoba Hydro’s Chief Operating Officer.

“Work is progressing well on the restoration efforts, and no further revisions to our estimated time of restoration are expected at this point.”

The utility has supplied a generator which has been connected to the community’s water treatment plant, which is now back online. In addition, Manitoba Hydro has supplied eight large heaters along with additional generators to run them, for use by the community at their discretion.

“Our employees and local support staff are continuing their efforts to repair the line as safely and as quickly as possible,” Turner said, noting crews do require daylight to do their work.

Manitoba Hydro continues to be in regular communication with Cross Lake/Pimicikamak leadership to provide situational updates and respond to community questions and concerns.

“We thank the community for their patience and understanding as we work through this difficult repair,” Turner said.
