The 2026 Manitoba Winter Games powered by Manitoba Hydro Utility supports the return of the Games to the Hub of the North

Manitoba Hydro is powering sport and connecting communities as the province’s top youth athletes go for gold at the Manitoba Winter Games powered by Manitoba Hydro.

The utility is proud to be the title sponsor of the province’s largest winter multi-sport event, taking place in Thompson March 1-7. It’s the first Manitoba Winter Games since 2018, which were also powered by Manitoba Hydro.

The Games showcase the energy of more than 1,000 young athletes competing in 12 sports including hockey, ringette, curling and skiing. But it’s the hard work and dedication of hundreds of volunteers behind the scenes that really energize the event, and Manitoba Hydro is proud to work with them to make the Games a success.

“Supporting the Manitoba Winter Games connects communities,” says Jeff Betker, Manitoba Hydro’s Vice-President, External & Indigenous Relations, Environment and Communications. “We love to see athletes and volunteers come together from across Manitoba to build relationships and foster sportsmanship.”

In addition to the financial sponsorship that supports the Manitoba Winter Games, Manitoba Hydro employees are also part of the team of volunteers giving back to their community in the Hub of the North.

“Whether we’re awarding medals or helping out in the stands, it brings a lot of joy to pitch in,” says Alexis LaForest, Manitoba Hydro’s Community Investment Supervisor. “These athletes have worked hard to represent their skills and their communities, and we’re proud to support them.”

To celebrate the 2026 Manitoba Winter Games, Manitoba Hydro is also serving a free customer appreciation lunch February 28 at the Thompson Regional Community Centre. The utility invites locals, visitors, athletes, volunteers and spectators alike to come together for a bowl of chili from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“We’re proud to deliver the energy that brings us together,” says LaForest.
