Natural gas and electric rates news

Natural gas commodity rate change

The Public Utilities Board has approved revised natural gas rates effective November 1, 2025. The new rates reflect an increase in the Gas Commodity rate from 7.99¢ per cubic metre to 8.05¢ per cubic metre, which is primarily the result of changes in the price Manitoba Hydro pays for natural gas from Alberta. In addition, the Delivery rate is increasing from 13.52¢ to 15.37¢ per cubic metre reflecting the Public Utiulities Board approval of a general revenue increase of 4.5% associated with the costs to operate and maintain the natural gas distribution system, as well as adjustments in costs to transport natural gas to Manitoba and to store the natural gas.

The annualized combined annual bill impact of these adjustments for the typical residential customer will be an increase of approximately 6.3 per cent or $38 per year. Annualized bill impacts for larger volume system supply customers range from decreases of 10.6% to increases of 8.0% depending on customer class and consumption levels.

Gas Commodity and Delivery rates may be adjusted each gas quarter (February, May, August, and November) for increases or decreases to the forecast costs of natural gas supply. Manitoba Hydro earns no profit on the sale of Gas Commodity. The price the utility pays is passed directly on to customers with no markup – you pay what we pay.

To assist with the impact of quarterly fluctuations caused by market prices, we offer customers the option of paying their natural gas bills in equal monthly payments through our Equal Payment Plan.
