The COVID-19 pandemic has changed many things for many people.

For some customers, paying their monthly energy bill has become a challenge. Recognizing this, along with the uncertainty at the start of the pandemic, Manitoba Hydro suspended service disconnections of overdue accounts April 1, 2020.

As health restrictions continue to be eased, Manitoba Hydro is now preparing to resume disconnections.

Customers can ensure their services are secure by contacting our Credit Department to let us know about their situation. If you’re experiencing financial hardship as a result of the pandemic, please know we are here to work with you. Please don’t wait to reach out for assistance.

Manitoba Hydro has several programs in place that can support customers in these difficult times. Our Customer Arrears Assistance Program helps customers pay back arrears over time while making equal monthly payments regardless of how much energy is consumed in any given month. Our staff can also advise customers about various federal and provincial relief programs they might be eligible for.

Customers who do not contact us to establish a suitable payment schedule will be subject to disconnection.

We can also refer customers to the Neighbours Helping Neighbours program administered by The Salvation Army. Neighbours Helping Neighbours can provide one-time emergency funding to assist with energy bills. The program relies on private and corporate donations to fund its services.
