Like you, I have watched the news coming out of Ukraine with a combination of shock and sorrow. The images and reports of people forced from their homes, of families torn apart and of lives lost are heartbreaking.
Though thousands of kilometres separate us from the conflict, the large Ukrainian community in our province brings it all close to home. Many of you have ancestral connections to the country. Some of you have family who are directly affected. My thoughts are with all of you and with all those engulfed by this tragedy.
There is a sense of helplessness as we watch the events unfold and I know many of us are looking for ways to support the people of Ukraine. One way to help is by making a financial contribution to The Canadian Red Cross. The Government of Canada will match eligible donations by individual Canadians to the Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal until March 18, 2022.
I also know the conflict in eastern Europe can weigh heavily on our hearts and minds. But this is a weight that should not be borne alone. Talk to your friends, family and others for support as we collectively hope for a quick and just resolution to this event.
