Manitoba Hydro warns of bogus bill reminder text message

A holiday season text message scam is targeting Manitobans with a bogus energy bill reminder.

The text message claims a Manitoba Hydro bill is due or overdue and provides a link to make payment.

Manitoba Hydro does send bill reminders via text message but does not ask for payment online or via phone, text, e-transfer or cryptocurrency.

The utility is reminding customers who receive such texts not to click the link and delete the message. Manitoba Hydro warned customers recently of a similar scam sent via email.

Customers can verify their account information by logging onto their online account via web browser or the Manitoba Hydro app or by calling us at 1-888-624-9376 (1-888-MBHYDRO).
