Manitoba Hydro continues to repair damage and restore power outages caused by severe winds. The windstorm Thursday and Friday caused downed lines, trees on lines, pole fires, broken poles and other damage, resulting in hundreds of power outages and thousands of customers without power across southern Manitoba.
In some areas, wind gusts topped 100 km/hr.
Manitoba Hydro continued to receive reports of wind-related damage and power outages Friday afternoon.
“Safety is our top priority, both for our employees and customers. In a severe weather event like this there are several potential hazards including downed power lines,” says Peter Chura, Manitoba Hydro Media Relations Officer. “Be safe: if you see a downed power line stay at least 10 metres away and call 911.”
In such a widespread event where it takes time to reach and assess hundreds of outages, we cannot provide updated restoration times. Manitoba Hydro crews are making every effort to safely restore power as quickly as possible, but some customers may be without power overnight.
If customers are unsure the power outage in their area has been reported, they can report it online or call 1-888-624-9376 (1-888-MBHYDRO).
If using a generator or other fuel burning appliance, be aware of the risks of carbon monoxide.
