Manitoba Hydro crews continue to repair storm damage
Most customers restored but effects of storm continue to be felt
Manitoba Hydro crews continue to make repairs to damaged power lines, poles and other equipment across southern Manitoba. By late Thursday night power was restored to all but about 100 customers, but the effects of storm damage continue to be felt.
Manitoba Hydro is taking planned outages in some areas to safely repair existing or new equipment damage, and remove trees and branches at risk of causing further damage. The utility will endeavor to provide notification on its social media pages and via direct outreach to customers but given the urgency to get this work done and prevent further outages, it may not always be possible.
Early Friday morning, storm-impacted tree branches caused a new outage in Windsor Park, affecting about 330 customers. Multiple crews are working to safely restore power there as quickly as possible, expected Friday afternoon. Some of the damaged power lines are in difficult to access areas where we can’t use heavy equipment.
Manitoba Hydro reminds customers not to approach areas where crews are working, and respect barricades on roads. This is for the safety of our employees and the public and to avoid delays completing work.
In the Parkland region and southwest Manitoba all initial calls from the storm this week have been restored though considerable work remains to finalize some repairs. In the Swan River area including Minitonas, Manitoba Hydro staff are working with customers and electricians to help restore electrical service to properties that have been impacted by flooding.
North of Winnipeg in the Balmoral area about 80 customers remained without power overnight as crews continued to discover damaged poles needing replacement. All customers are expected to be restored to power Friday.
