Most storm outages should be restored by end of Thursday: Manitoba Hydro

Crews prioritizing areas without power the longest

Manitoba Hydro has restored power to tens of thousands of customers who were affected by severe weather earlier this week.

In the City of Winnipeg this morning, 1,400 customers remained without power due to storm related outages. The number of customers affected has changed throughout the day due mainly to the need for brief planned outages as part of restoration efforts. Crews must de-energize some lines to safely make repairs. In addition other outages continue to be reported.

Manitoba Hydro is aiming to have most storm-related outages restored by the end of Thursday.

Some customers have been without power for an extended period of time, and the utility recognizes the difficulty this causes customers. Multiple crews are prioritizing these outages, which include power lines down in several locations, and damage in areas that is difficult to reach with heavy equipment.

We appreciate customers’ patience as we safely restore power as quickly as possible.

Remaining storm related outages in other areas across southern Manitoba are also expected to be largely resolved Thursday.

Manitoba Hydro is asking customers who may have damage to the overhead service mast on their property to contact a licensed electrician as soon as possible to make repairs, which will allow the utility to complete re-energizing their property.

The utility is also reminding customers to update their contact information, to ensure Manitoba Hydro representatives can reach out directly with information or advisories.

Thank you again to our customers for their patience and support for Manitoba Hydro crews working to restore power after this very damaging severe weather event.
