Storm outages mostly restored: Manitoba Hydro
Utility thanks employees, customers after severe storms caused severe damage
Manitoba Hydro has restored most power outages caused by damage from violent thunderstorms earlier this week.
Crews completed repairs on the last of the large outages in Winnipeg and across southern Manitoba. Late Thursday evening a total of 245 customers were without power across the province, including about 100 in Winnipeg.
Crews will attend Friday to remaining outages affecting small numbers or single customers. The storm aftermath is persistent: late Thursday a damaged pole broke in East St. Paul, causing an outage to more than a thousand customers. But crews repaired it and restored power before the end of the night.
Damaged equipment not yet detected, or weakened trees and branches falling on lines, may still result in power disruptions in the days ahead.
Damage this extensive and outages so numerous and widespread from summer storms is rare. Manitoba Hydro mobilized all available resources to respond and will continue to face challenges from damaged equipment and flood-affected roads. Thank you to all our employees who contributed to this enormous effort.
Many customers experienced extended outages due to the storms. We thank them for their patience and support.
Customers with damage to the electrical mast on their property will need to have it repaired by a licensed electrician before Manitoba Hydro can fully restore power.
Manitoba Hydro is also reminding customers to update their contact information with the utility.
