Manitoba Hydro assists large structure move in southern Manitoba
Short outages needed in some communities to ensure safe passage for oversized load
Customers in some Manitoba communities may experience temporary power outages from September 22 to 24 while Manitoba Hydro assists with the movement of oversized structures across the province.
The outages may affect customers in communities primarily along Provincial Trunk Highways (PTH) 23 and 59 as structures are transported from Saskatchewan to the Minnesota border (see map below).
September 22:
PTH 1, 21 and 23 between Kirkella and the PTH 34 junction.
September 23:
PTH 23 from PTH 34 to Morris.
September 24:
PTH 23 and PTH 59 from Morris to the U.S. border.
The shipment consists of eight empty storage tanks manufactured in Alberta and destined for overseas export. At approximately eight metres tall, each tank is about the height of a two-storey building.
To ensure the structures can pass safely, Manitoba Hydro crews will either lift or temporarily disconnect power lines at approximately 220 locations along the route.
Each outage is expected to last about 1.5 hours, providing crews with sufficient time to complete their work safely. Specific outage times cannot be provided because they will depend on the progress of the shipment along the route.
Manitoba Hydro recognizes these outages may be inconvenient for affected customers and thanks them for their patience and understanding. The safety of customers, crews and travelers remains the utility’s top priority during this complex operation.
