Energy for Life: Delivering the energy that brings us together

Our Sustainability Report, for the year ending March 31, 2025, is available to view, print, or save.

Beyond the provision of steady, reliable energy — but equally important to our success and to our province — is how Manitoba Hydro conducts our work to promote safety, advance reconciliation, promote communities and ensure care for our environment.

As Manitobans working for Manitobans, we have a vested interest in the impact of our work.

Here are the highlights of those efforts from our past fiscal year (ending March 31, 2025).

People

  • 97% of employees completed ethics training.
  • 98% of employees completed annual cybersecurity training.
  • 212 students joined our workforce for a summer placement.
  • More than $109 000 provided in scholarships and bursaries to students across Manitoba.
  • 74% of residential customers reported they are satisfied with Manitoba Hydro’s overall service.
  • 96% of customers are satisfied with field service.
  • 75766 electric and natural gas line located completed.
  • Over 3700 loans and $18 million in financing provided to customers.

Community

  • 65% of residential customers are satisfied with Manitoba Hydro’s Safety Education.
  • 3504 grade five and six students across 66 schools reached province-wide with electrical and natural gas safety messaging.
  • More than $1131500 in combined employee and payroll donations.
  • More than $18750 donated to 26 employee-championed events and $5200 to 13 volunteer grants.
  • Over $513000 in sponsorship of events and activities across Manitoba.

Environment

  • construction completed on our newest facility – Riel Construction Office — which features energy efficient and sustainable design, including geothermal heating/cooling, low-carbon materials, and natural daylight to reduce electrical use for lighting.
  • awarded the 2024 Energy Star® for our Manitoba Hydro headquarters building with a rating of 97 – our highest rating to date.
  • Stocked approximately 8900 Lake Sturgeon fingerlings and 1600 yearlings raised at our Grand Rapids Fish Hatchery.
  • Registered 159 protected wood poles with the federal Abandoned Nest Registry.
  • 1 156 kilograms (kg) of small single use and rechargeable batteries recycled through the Call2Recycle program.
  • 53 273 kg of larger, industrial batteries collected for recycling to Industrial Metals.
  • 42 800 litres of lube oil1 was collected and recycled.
  • 136 610 kg of industrial non-hazardous materials was recycled.
  • an estimated 21.3 metric tonnes of electronic equipment (such as computers, monitors, and accessories) were donated for re-purposing or recycling (e-waste) through the Computers for Schools Manitoba program.
  • 85 metric tons of paper was recycled through Manitoba Hydro’s Official Records Destruction, Confidential Shredding and T.R.I.M Programs

Annual reports

Our annual report covers the corporate fiscal reporting year of April 1 to March 31 and is issued to the utility’s shareholders, the people of Manitoba.

Quarterly reports

A quarterly report updates our financial picture at the end of three, six and nine months to supplement financial information found in the annual report.
