Manitoba has hundreds of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, but most sites are limited to major highways and southern communities. To support the Manitoba Affordable Energy Plan and address the province’s EV transportation gap, we're building our own network capable of charging a vehicle in 20-30 minutes.
The initial phase of the project will see the installation of six, publicly owned, charging sites between Winnipeg and Thompson. Our approach will prioritize partnerships with First Nations and Northern communities to unlock new economic and tourism opportunities in the North.
Sites include:
- Lundar
- St Martin (Pinaymootang First Nation)
- Grand Rapids (Misipawistik Cree Nation)
- Ponton (Pimicikamak Cree Nation)
- Wabowden (Pimicikamak Cree Nation)
- Thompson (Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation)
Map of new coverage areas
- New Manitoba Hydro charging stations serving up to four vehicles.
- New Manitoba Hydro charging stations serving up to two vehicles.
- New charging coverage represented by 150km radii.
- Existing public fast charging coverage represented by 150km radii.
Timeline
This timeline shows that we'll build it quickly, safely and affordably. Future phases of the charging network will be driven by learnings, data and insights from the first phase.
