As we expand our electrical system to serve new customers, the system itself is being repaired continuously, replaced, and upgraded with a focus on safety, reliability, and providing more capacity to meet the growing energy needs of our customers.
Over the next 20 years, we will need to increase the frequency and quantity of replacements, as equipment that was installed up to 80 years ago nears the end of its useful life, such as:
- critical components;
- distribution stations;
- distribution supply centres.
- generating stations;
- Slave Falls generating station work on concrete structures & new portage route.
We’re not unique in our needs. A report by the Canadian Electricity Association quotes an International Energy Agency estimate that Canada will need to invest around $350 billion in its electricity sector by 2030. That’s a national investment of approximately $17.5 billion per year for 20 years. Learn more about the current and future states of Canada’s electricity industry.
