Economic Opportunities
The construction and ongoing operation of Bipole III and its converter stations are expected to create economic opportunities for the province for years to come.
- Workforce estimates indicate approximately 1,200 person years on the transmission project and 1,600 person years for both converter stations. These numbers are for direct contract construction workers only.
- Peak workforce on the transmission line would be 700-900 construction employees, and 500-700 employees for both converter stations.
-
The construction contracts will encourage maximizing employment and providing on-the-job training of local residents, Aboriginal people, and Manitoba workers.
-
The construction contracts, where practical, will also include wording that provides for local, Aboriginal, and Manitoba business opportunities.
The transmission line project will run seasonally with winter construction (November-April) in the north and summer construction (May-October) in the south.
